Red Herring
The preliminary prospectus of an offering. It usually doesn't include information on the final pricing if for an initial public offering (IPO).
Redemption
The return of an investor's principal in a security, such as a bond, preferred stock or mutual fund shares. By law, redemption of the mutual fund shares must happen within seven days of receiving a request for redemption from the investor.
Redemption Value
The amount at which a prior charge is due to be repaid on the expiry of the loan period or on liquidation. Prior charges are usually repaid at par, but in some cases they may be redeemed above par as a bonus to holders.
Redemption Yield
Return on a fixed interest security or any investment with a known life expressed as an annual percentage. Redemption yield measures the capital as well as income return on investments with a fixed life.
Reinvestment
The use of income or capital gain earned from an investment to purchase additional shares or parts of the investment.
